Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has collected revenue to the tune of around `7.6 lakh from the children play zone situated in Gandhi Park in one year. The park which was opened in June last year to earn revenue as well as to provide an amusement park to the children seems to be helping the civic body meet both its objectives.
Speaking of the matter, the district project officer of Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation scheme (AMRUT) Ashish Kathaith said, “After the park was made, it was given on public private partnership (PPP) mode. The company appointed for running it has given MCD an amount of `7.6 lakh in one year.”
He further said, “As per the agreement signed with the company, it would increase the income by 10 per cent by the end of this year. So, the amount we have received is likely to go up by 10 per cent or more by the end of 2019.”
Notably, following inauguration, the children play zone was embroiled in a controversy. The allegation ran that the assigned company had spent more than the market price on various rides installed in the zone. Furthermore, the officers, tasked with inquiry into the allegation, have forwarded the probe report to the civic body officers concerned.
