The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is in the process of setting up a committee that will look into zone wise enforcement of the polythene ban in the city.
“The city will be divided into zones and deliberations are going on to decide the zones,” said deputy municipal commissioner Rohitash Sharma.
As per the orders of High Court, strict actions will be taken by MCD from Monday onwards.
“Till now we were spreading awareness and giving time to people to get the hang of the ban but now from November 11 we will take strict actions by imposing fine of Rs 500 per polythene bag on anyone who is found using the same,” said municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey.
MCD also distributed cloth bags in localities and streets as a part of their awareness drive.
“We have distributed around 40,000 bags out of the planned two lakh. Soon we will distribute the remaining 1, 60,000 bags so that the word reaches the masses,” said Sharma.
“Our team will start functioning from November 11 as we have spread enough word about the ban and it is time to take action,” he added.
