MCD to use RFID technology in City

Thursday, 23 May 2019 | PNS' | DEHRADUN

Under the Smart City project, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) along with Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) will install Radio Frequency Identification Devices (RFID) in the door to door garbage collection vehicles and houses in 60 wards initially. Officials stated that the project will help the in-charge to track and keep a record of the door to door garbage collection.RFID is a tag like system which works in a pair.

The device will be installed in the garbage collection vehicles and doors of the residents. t works by capturing radio frequency of the paired magnet and helps collect proper data of the garbage vehicle reaching the assigned spot. The project cost is about Rs 1.5 crore for the city.

The chief city health officer at MCD, Dr Kailash Joshi said, “We had the first meeting with MDDA and soon a second meeting will be held. The project will initially focus on 60 wards of the city.

RFID will be very helpful for us to keep a track of the garbage collection vehicles reaching the appointed wards in time. We currently receive complaints about the garbage vehicles failing to reach many houses sometimes for more than two days.

The RFID will make it easy for us to spot the particular vehicle in such cases. This will also help us to increase collection from door to door garbage collection service.”
