Media working on environment protection: Khandekar

The role of media is important in making people aware of the environment. Senior journalist Abhilash Khandekar said this while expressing his views on “Media and Environment” in the “Transformative Change - Sustainable Outcomes” lecture series at the Atal Behari Vajpayee Institute of Good Governance and Policy Analysis (AIGGPA).

Khandekar said that to some extent the media is working in the field of environmental protection, but it needs to be made more effective. He said that the media is constantly drawing people’s attention towards river conservation, wild life, bio-diversity and water conservation.

Director General of the institute, R Parshuram said that from the Silent Valley of Kerala to the Chipko and Narmada Bachao Andolan, the media has played an important role in building consensus among the citizens. He said that the media can easily put environmental problems before the society.Principal Advisors Girish Sharma and Mangesh Tyagi besides the institute’s staff were present in the lecture series
