Commuting will become comfortable for the people living in National Capital Regional (NCR) areas, as for the first time a proposal have been moved to connect Noida and Ghaziabad via metro services and operations to improve the transport facility.
Also, this will be the first time that Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s (DMRC) Red Line and Blue Line will be connected with each other. The proposed corridor’s revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been submitted to the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) on Saturday last by the DMRC. The proposed route will connect Mohan Nagar-Noida Electronic City.
Currently, there are two metro networks in Ghaiziabad i.e, extension Red Line from Dilshad Garden to Shaeed Stahl (New Bus Adda) and the other one is Blue Line that connects from Anand Vihar to Vaishali.
According to officials, the proposed corridor will be 6 kilometres (KM) long and will fall on Red Line in Mohan Nagar to Noida Electronic City on Blue Line. “The main purpose behind the plan is to serve the people living on the bordering areas of Delhi where transport facility is very less. The population living in these areas such as Vasundhara, Indirapuram and sections of Saibabad, donot avail the public transport and are largely dependent on auto rickshaws and cabs that too on exorbitant rates.
With this section becoming operational, large number of population will be benefitted through this corridor,” said an official.
The upcoming stretch will have six elevated stations at Mohan Nagar, Vaibhav Khand, Indirapuram, Shaktikhand, Vasundhara Sector-5 and Saibabad. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 1786 crore. Currently, people living in these areas travel to Vaishali, Dilashad Garden or travel to NH-24 to reach Noida sector 62 and to reach Delhi.
However, officials closely involved with the project said that the DPR has been submitted but the plan is still on papers. It will fructify only after getting the final nod from the Uttar Pradesh Gvernment.
Another official from GDA said that the revised DPR is ready and the work will start by end of this year, once the UP Government accords approval. “Earlier, the corridor was planned from Saibabad to Electronic City with a total length of 5.11 km but the plan was changed due to various reasons.
Hence, plan was revised and it was decided to connect Mohan Nagar to Noida Electronic City with an extended length of 6 km. Further, the already existing Vaishali metro station will be extended till Saibabad under Delhi Metro Phase IV,” said the official.
Around 1.5 lakh people will benefit, once the corridor will be constructed, added the official.
