Miniature leadless pacemaker implanted on 83-yr-old patient

The Kailash hospital here has claimed that its doctors have performed successful implantation of the world’s smallest leadless heart pacemaker on an octogenarian patient. The leadless pacemaker is a miniaturised heart device with the most advanced pacing technology in the world.

Informing about the surgery, the head of cardiology department of the hospital, Dr Raj Pratap Singh told the media persons that a 83-year-old frail patient with symptoms of dizziness, sleep disorder and fainting was admitted in the hospital.

He was advised implantation of pacemaker which requires an incision on chest for implant of matchbox size pacemaker. “The clinical characteristics of the patient made him an ideal recipient for a miniature leadless pacemaker. The vitamin capsule sized device is a safe alternative to the conventional pacemakers. The implant also leaves no scar and the patient can be discharged on second day,’’ Dr Singh said.

The director of the hospital Pawan Sharma congratulated the team of doctors of the hospital for the unique achievement.
