Negligence towards traffic rules proved fatal for two tourists on a motorcycle in Mussoorie on Wednesday. The rider reportedly was not wearing a helmet when his bike collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction, killing him and the pillion rider on the spot.
The deceased has been identified as Sunil Malik (28) and Hansraj (29), both residents of Panipat, Haryana. According to local police, they received information about the road accident at 1:30 PM. Both the deceased along with their friends came here to visit Mussoorie-Dhanaulti and were going back to Haryana. Local police have seized the dumper and the driver has been detained.
Mussoorie inspector Bhawna Kainthola said, “Two garbage collection dumpers were coming from Dhanaulti to Dehradun. Both Sunil and Hansraj were also coming from the same direction. Their scooty has not signs of being hit from behind.
The cause of death is a matter of investigation. The bodies for now have been kept at the mortuary of Mussoorie Civil Hospital.”
It is important to mention here that state police from the month of January to August this year have issued 3,72,693 challans to riders not wearing helmets and 44,015 challans have been issued to pillion riders not wearing helmet.
