MMT at Sahibgunj to be completed within a month’

The multi model terminal to be constructed in Sahibgunj under Jal Marg Vikas Project (JMVP) is likely to be completed by August this year.

Replying to Rajya Sabha MP Mahesh Poddar's question on the construction of the terminal, Union Minister of State for Shipping, Mansukh Mandaviya said, "The multi model terminal at Sahibgunj is situated at an important spot in the logistic chain of National Waterways 1 at Eastern Transport Corridor of India. National Highway 80 and Sakrigali railway station are situated near this terminal."

He added, "This terminal will help in increase of transportation of cargo which will lead to a huge social, economic and industrial development. This will provide an alternative route for cargos going to Nepal and will open new spectrum of international market for sea business in Jharkhand and Bihar."

The terminal is likely to have a traffic volume of 2.24 million tonnes per year and it will provide employment to more than 2500 people.

The terminal is being constructed on 183.13 acres of land and the budget for civil works in the first phase is Rs. 280.90 crore while that for rehabilitation and land cost is Rs. 187 crore.

The project commenced in November 2016 and 94 percent work has already been completed.
