Model Code of Conduct lifted

Monday, 27 May 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

From Monday, the functioning in all government departments will be normalised as the Election Commission has lifted the Model Code of Conduct on Sunday after completion of the Lok Sabha elections in the country.

In an instruction to the cabinet secretary and chief secretaries of state governments, the Election Commission said the model code had been lifted with immediate effect.

Financial sanctions and release of funds for development works for the current fiscal 2019-20 had come to a halt after the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct with the announcement of Lok Sabha poll schedule on March 10. Now, with the model code bars lifted, the government can launch new schemes and projects.

As now the model code has ceased to exist, the Yogi Adityanath government will be abuzz with activities starting from Monday.

The state Cabinet meeting, the first after the Lok Sabha polls, is expected to be held on Tuesday and the government is expected to take several important decisions.

Sources here said on Sunday that in the Cabinet meeting, the ministers would pass a resolution congratulating Narendra Modi for the landslide victory of the BJP and NDA and also congratulate three state Cabinet ministers who have won the Lok Sabha polls.

They are Tourism and Women Welfare Minister Rita Bahuguna Josh from Allahabad,   Animal Husbandry Minister SP Singh Baghel from Agra and Khadi Minister Satyadeo Pachauri from Kanpur. All the three ministers are likely to participate in the Cabinet meeting for the last time before taking oath of the Lok Sabha.

Meanwhile, an important issue to be taken up by the Yogi Adityanath Cabinet is the transfer policy for the state employees for 2019-20.

Earlier in 2018-19, it was decided that till 2021-22, the transfer season for the state employees would be for two months from April to May. But as only four days are left for the completion of the season this year due to the polls, the Cabinet is expected to extend the transfer dates till June 30.
