Modi, BJP jittery: Maya

Friday, 19 April 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

After undergoing the 48-hour campaigning ban imposed on her by the Election Commission, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati, on Thursday, hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party, saying that the ruling party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were nervous and jittery about their poll prospects as they had performed badly in the first two phases of polls.

“The condition of the BJP and the Prime Minister is similar to that of the Congress in the last Lok Sabha polls. The reason for this is their negative stance against backwards, Dalits, Muslims, farmers, traders, workers and upper caste poor,” Mayawati tweeted on Thursday.

Later, in two more tweets, Mayawati slammed the Election Commission for taking no action against Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for getting media hype during the 72-hour ban imposed on him for canvassing by visiting temples and the house of a Dalit.

“If the Election Commission continues its leniency (meharbaani) and turns a blind eye, then it will be impossible to have this elections free and fair... The BJP leadership is hell bent on forcing itself (manmaani), as it had been doing till now,” she said.

The BSP chief further said, “By blatantly violating the ban imposed by the Election Commission, UP Chief Minister Yogi is visiting cities, temples and doing the drama of having lunch at the house of a Dalit. Why is the Election Commission silent on the Chief Minister’s acts when he is violating the curbs and gaining political mileage during his ban.”

After the two-day ban, Mayawati on Thursday embarked on electioneering and addressed a poll meeting at Gopalganj in Bihar. The BSP is contesting all seats in Bihar on its own.

Meanwhile, Mayawati also accused the official machinery and Election Commission officials of working with a `biased’ approach and supporting the ruling party.

In Bulandshahr, BJP candidate Bhola Singh entered the polling centre during voting on Thursday to influence voters but was only detained later on.

“The District Magistrate of Bulandshahr, who facilitated the entry of the BJP candidate and later detained him after opposition raised the issue, was not removed from his post as the Election Commission seems to be biased in their approach”, Mayawati alleged, demanding immediate removal of the Bulandshahr District Magistrate.
