The Congress’ New Delhi candidate Ajay Maken on Thursday accused the BJP of destroying central institutions in the country, saying during the last five years, the Modi Government has waged a war on public sector undertakings in a bid to destroy them one by one.
Addressing media persons, Maken said during the last five years, the Modi Government at the Centre waged a war on public sector undertakings such as MTNL, BSNL, Air India, ONGC, IARI etc and this period will be remembered for the heavy downfall of these high-profile institutions.
Elaborating it further, Maken said the 165-year-old CPWD (Central Public Works Department) along with nearly a dozen institutions were also ruined by the Modi Government. "The Central Government has made a determined effort to privatise the CPWD as no recruitment has been done in the CPWD for the last three years," he said, adding that according to a report submitted by "Earnest and Young in August, 2017" it was suggested that the CPWD should be privatised and the Modi Government accepted this suggestion.
Following it, the Modi Government outsourced the maintenance work. The CPWD also stopped giving work to small contractors to bring in the big players into the field. Shri Maken said that according to a NSSO report, in last five years witnessed the highest unemployment in the country in the past 45 years.
He said the people of Delhi are now fondly recalling the 15-year rule of the Congress in Delhi and the 10 years of the UPA Government at the Centre.
Asserting to stop sealing drive in a month after being elected, he said businesses are ruined by the sealing and demolition drives, Maken recalled that when Delhiites were harassed by the sealing and demolition drive in 2006, the UPA Govt at the Centre passed a bill within in a week in both the houses of Parliament, which was also ratified by the President of India to stop the sealing and demolition drive in the Capital immediately.
