In what is considered as a new year gift for the Haridwar railway station, the Minister of State for railways Manoj Sinha inaugurated the newly constructed retiring and waiting room for the passengers on Thursday. Among those present on the occasion were the Haridwar MP and former Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and former Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Vijay along with Shanti Kunj head Pranav Pandya.

A dormitory for men and women passengers has been built at an estimated  expenditure of Rs 125 crore, the railway officers said. The escalator at the railway station was also dedicated to the people on the occasion.

While dedicating the newly built retiring room to the people, Manoj Sinha said that Rishikesh railway station would soon be transformed into one equipped with all modern facilities.

Dwelling on ongoing work of laying Rishikesh- Karnprayag railway line, he said the first phase of the work would be completed by the end of this year.

He also lauded the string of welfare projects initiated by the Narendra Modi Government  since it was saddled in the seat of power at the Centre. He referred to Ujjwala and Jan Dhan Yojana and claimed that they along with many others have benefited the common people immensely. “It is a matter of pride for all of us that ‘Sarkar Apke Dwar’ has turned into a reality in the country thanks to the tireless efforts of the Centre since Modi became the PM,” he said.

Speaking of the projects initiated by railway department, the Union Minister said that it has spent over Rs 550 crore in a space of just four years to strengthen railway system as compared to Rs 100 to Rs 150 crores spent for the same by the previous Government.

The Minister assured that with the completion of the new Saharanpur- Bagpat-New Delhi railway line, the people would reach New Delhi from Haridwar in just three hours. “Besides, we are seeing to it that doubling of rail tracks between Haridwar and Delhi picks speed and is completed at the earliest,” said the Minister.
