Mystery shrouds the death of a 32-year-old police constable whose body was found in a canal in Shamli district on Friday evening.
The police suspect that the constable was murdered and later his body was thrown at the canal.
As per reports, the body of constable Umesh Chauhan was found in Purvi canal near Mundet village on Friday evening.
Chauhan, who was posted in Bijnor district, had come to his village in Baghpat on leave.
According to Circle Officer Vinay Gautam, it is suspected that Chauhan was killed and his body was dumped in the canal by the assailants.
The deceased’s family members said that Chauhan had gone to buy medicines but when he did not return, they called him on his mobile phone but did not get any response.
Later, his body was spotted by some passers-by, who intimated the police about it.
In Aligarh, a six-year-old girl was kidnapped and raped by a local villager in Palimuqeempur village on Wednesday night.
The girl was sleeping with her family in the house when her neighbour Bhagwan Singh kidnapped and raped her.
Singh was caught by the villagers and handed over to the police. He has been sent to jail while the girl is undergoing treatment at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital in Aligarh.
Meanwhile, seven persons were killed in separate mishaps since Friday night.
Four persons were killed and six others were injured when the tempo they were travelling in collided with a truck on Karhal road near Singhmai village in Firozabad on Friday night.
While one person died on the spot, three others succumbed to their injuries at a hospital.
The deceased were identified as Rajesh Kumar (42), Raksha (35), Vimlesh (40) and Ajmesh (25).
The truck driver fled the scene abandoning his vehicle, which had overturned due the collision.
In Muzaffarnagar, a four-year-old girl was killed and four others were seriously injured in two incidents of roof collapse due to heavy rains in the last 24 hours.
Humera was killed while her mother Sanjida (35) and sister Sofia (7) were seriously injured on Friday evening when the roof of their house in Khalapar village collapsed.
In another incident, Dayawati (45) and her son Ram Kumar were seriously injured on Friday evening when the roof of their house collapsed in Ratanpuri village during the downpour.
The injured were rushed to district hospital.
It another mishap in Muzaffarnagar, a kanwariya was killed while four others were seriously injured after two motorcycles collided on Delhi-Dehradun highway near Barla village on Friday night.
The kanwariya was identified as Arun 923) from Haryana.
In another incident in the same village, daily wager Arif was killed on Friday night at a kanwar camp along the highway when he accidentally fell in a huge ‘kadhai’ (cooking pot) of boiling oil. Arif’s family staged a protest after laying the body near the camp and demanded compensation.
