National Conference on ‘Study of the Early Period of Buddhist Philosophy' begins

Education and scholars from all over the country are discussing Lord Buddha's early life and his influence on the times and history in the National Conference on 'Study of the Early Period of Buddhist Philosophy'.

The conference began from Tuesday. In the inauguration session, Sanchi University Vice Chancellor and Principal Secretary Culture Pankaj Rag said that Buddhism and Jainism thrived due to disenchantment with Vedic system and agro-based economy.

He said that after the discovery of iron, plows and agricultural implements made with its use developed the land for cultivation in the Buddhist period by cutting forests.  The chief guest of the inauguration ceremony, Mahebodhi Society of Sri Lanka President Vanegala Upathisa Nayaka Thero, discussed the spread of Buddhism in Sri Lanka and its impact on the society there through Sanchi.  Citing the international pattern of Sanchi University, Tharo said that Buddhism has a parable of being elevated from karma rather than birth and Sanchi University too has to make a place with its activities and actions.  In his presidential address, Vanegala Upatheesha Nayak Tharo said that 'Sanchi is the place for which we Sri Lankans were cultured and cultured' as it was from where Emperor Ashoka's son Milind and daughter Sanghamitra went to propagate Sri Lanka Buddhism.

Many papers were presented by historians and academics on the first day of the National Conference. The chairman of the program, Prof. BP Sahu of Delhi University, said through his discoveries and literature that the districts in South India were called Naadu.  He said that during the Buddhist period, the Vaishya and the working community made substantial donations in the construction of Chaitya and Buddhist complexes in the south.  He finds mention of name and place of religion and caste.

At the same time it also drew attention to the close proximity of Buddhist and Vedic sites. Prof of Delhi University Syed Zaheer Hussain Jafri highlighted the mention of Buddha and Buddhism in Islam and Arabic.  Jafri said that the word Zulkifl is mentioned in Arabic which historians associate with Buddha because it means man from Kapilavastu. He also associated the notion of Sufism with the Buddhist religion because it prays to God for no purpose and only love.

He said that some Islamic historians believe that Sufism is not associated with Islam and considers Vedic and Buddhist forms.

Prof Jafri said that during the reign of Khalifa Aaron Rashid in the 8th century, the stories of Panchatantra were translated as Kalila and Dimna. Which is still taught in India.Prof Banaras Hindu University Lalji Shravak presented his research on Buddhist music.  He said that Mahatma Buddha had said that he did not want to establish any ethics or religion, but wanted to show a way through which the sufferings of the people could be reduced or reduced.  Sushma Trivedi presented her research indicating the status of women in the Buddhist period.
