The National Police Memorial Day was observed at the Reserve Police Lines on Monday. Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, along with Ministers and senior police officials, paid tribute to the police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. While addressing the gathering on the occasion, he said that police department is an integral for securing the country internally.

He also made three announcements including the increase in the monthly laundry allowance from Rs 150 to Rs 200, increase in the salary of temporary sanitation workers from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,500 and increase in the allowance given for meals while taking inmates for their court hearing from Rs 45 to Rs 100.

CM Rawat said, “Police personnel are bound by the discipline and responsibilities that come with the uniform they wear. It is the responsibility of police department and paramilitary forces to ensure the internal security and law and order in the country. Sometimes in the line of duty, they even have to sacrifice their lives. In the last one year,  292 paramilitary and police personnel across the country have been martyred, including one from Uttarakhand. The martyrs of this country are a ray hope for all of us. On this day, we pay tribute to those brave souls and pray for the wellbeing of their families.”

On terrorism he said, “Today there is no country in this world which has not been touched by the challenges posed by terrorism. To counter-attack such terrorist activities, we need to take actions according to a well made action plan.”

About the sensitive geographic conditions of the State, he said, “We share our international borders with Nepal and China while our inter-state borders are with Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Our borders are sensitive from the strategic and geographic points of view. Uttarakhand police has several challenges to face including festivals, Char Dham Yatra, disaster management and the Kumbh Mela which will be organised in Haridwar during 2021. I have full faith that our police department will be able to discharge its duties with honour and dignity.”

The Vidhan Sabha speaker Prem Chand Agrawal, cabinet ministers Madan Kaushik, Subodh Uniyal, MLAs Vinod Chamoli, Munna Singh Chauhan, director general of police Anil K Raturi, DG (Law and Order) Ashok Kumar and other senior police and administrative officials were also present on the occasion.
