The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Chairman, Naresh Kumar presented a budget for 2019-20 on Tuesday with ‘Smart City’ project yet again topping the agenda along with e-governance, free Wi-fi, smart energy, smart education health care and skill development.
In his third consecutive budget, the Chairman projected total receipts of the Budget Estimates (BE) for 2019-20 is Rs 4172.34 Crore against Rs 3954.51 Crore provide in the Revised Estimates (RE).
Presenting the Budget Estimates, the Chairman proposed Rs 50 Cr for various projects under ‘Making New Delhi -A Smart City’ programme. Various other projects were also announced including digital experience centre at Palika Kendra and ‘Smart Pole Project’ phase - II.
The civic body proposed to undertake various programme for the benefit of the weaker sections of the society such as imparting free-of-cost skill training to the girl child of safai sevaks, mallis, khallasis and beldars, working in the Council.
“This facility would be provided to these girls, who had secured 60 per cent or above marks in Class-X. And financial scholarship be also made available per month up to class-XII, who wish to pursue the recognised professional courses.
The 50 per cent coaching fees would be granted by the Council at its own cost,” said Naresh Kumar.
In order to provide last mile connectivity, public sharing e-scooter scheme would be introduced in the 2019-20, in order to provide a low-cost flexible and environmental friendly system of personalised public transport.
Under this project, 1000 e-Scooters spread over 100 stations are proposed in the NDMC area.
The Council had proposed to install 625 panic buttons and 625 public addressing systems on the smart poles; this will help the public to contact in emergency to the command centre. It would help in providing information and addressing to the public as and when the critical situation arises, Chairman said.
On the basis of the 8573-feedback received from different stakeholders like students, teachers, parents and administrators, the NDMC has proposed to introduce Smart Classes in Primary Sections of NDMC / Navyug schools in the year 2019.
It was also proposed to install the emergency button in all NDMC schools along with CCTV cameras in open areas in the year 2019-20. “Last year we started ‘Under 10 Girls Football Academy’ at 03 NDMC/Navyug schools to promote football among girls and inculcate sports culture among the students. Considering the demand a similar football academy for fewer than 10 boys would be opened at three locations.
In order to provide medical and surgical treatment facility at Charak Palika Hospital and Palika Maternity Hospital under Ayushman Bharat, the NDMC has also proposed to ink a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to get associated with world largest healthcare insurance scheme Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna (PMJAY) in the year 2019-20.
The Chairman said that the Council will continue to put our energy and effort to see challenge become a reality for the people of New Delhi and it must resonate in every decision that we take and make sure that the people of this area enjoy better living condition.
We can achieve by allowing ourselves to be subjected to public scrutiny and restoring the confidence of all stakeholders, he said.
