Neighbours film stabbing; nobody stops attacker

Friday, 18 January 2019 | SHEKHAR SINGH | NEW DELHI

On Wednesday, a man lay outside his house in West Delhi’s Khyala area, his intestines hanging out, after a vicious knife attack by his neighbour. Others in the neighbourhood watched, some filmed the attack on whole family on their phones, but no one stopped the attacker, Mohammad Azad (42) or even dared to call police.

According to locals of DDA colony in Khyala, for last two years everyone in the C-Block had faced Azad’s anger and even his children and wife were not spared from it. Other than double murder police has also registered a case under POSCO act on the basis of complaint given by accused daughter.

According to sources in Delhi Police, Azad, who worked as a car denter and painter on daily wages, had came two years ago in Delhi. “He was earlier doing same work in Saudi Arabia and Mumbai but for last two years he was staying at his old home in Khyala. For last two years he tried to sexually harass her daughter and there were rampant fights between him and his wife. His wife had also filed eviction complaint in local court here,” said the source.

Even his neighbours alleged that whenever Azad used to roam around in street he used to pick fight with people and children. “He used to throw chilli powder in front of his house so that children cannot play and no one was even allowed to park vehicle even near at his home. Due to his crabby nature his wife used to live on first floor with his children and he used to stay on ground floor,” said Uday Ram, a neighbour.  “Azad have seven siblings living here nearby but for last 15 years they are not in his contact due to his behavior. He always tried to bully. We haven’t expected that one day he will kill someone,” said Manpreet, a neighbour.

“We have registered a case on the basis of complaint given by her daughter. Further we are investigating the matter,” said the senior police official.
