NHRC seeks report from Health Secretary

Friday, 19 July 2019 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

The National Human Rights Commission has directed the Odisha Health and Welfare Department Secretary to submit an action taken report within eight weeks regarding the denial of medical facilities to an AIDS-affected pregnant woman.

The NHRC passed the order based on the petition filed by civil society organisation Human Rights Watch secretary Sangita Swain.

In her petition Swain alleged that an AIDS affected pregnant woman was deprived of medical facilities and humiliated by a hospital authority.

She prayed the commission to take disciplinary and criminal action against the medical authorities involved in the case, compensate Rs 5 lakh to the victim, provide her free medical facilities and provide free educational facilities to her new born child.
