Following the announcement of the re-nomination of the incumbent MP Ramesh Pokhryal Nishank from the high-stake Haridwar constituency, the followers of the former chief minister erupted in joy. A road show was held in the city by his followers on Friday to mark the re-nomination of the leader.
The delay in the announcement of the candidate by the party high command had led to disappointment among the BJP workers who had prepared to celebrate the announcement since the Wednesday morning through taking out a procession and welcoming their leader at Narsen border.
They had also planned to celebrate the announcement by playing a special Holi, but things had not happened the way they had desired with the saffron brass sitting on the declaration.
Disappointment was palpable among the Nishank loyalists and murmurs were also heard.
However, the uncertainty was set at rest as the name of the candidate was declared on Thursday, sparking a celebration mood in the city and other parts of the district.
On Friday, the procession led by the state urban development minister Madan Kaushik was taken out from Roorkee at around 4 pm. As the rally reached Laltarao bridge the party workers raised slogans hailing the Haridwar MP. Later Nishank performed Ganga poojan at Har Ki Paidi, seeking blessing from the mother Ganga.
Notably, the four- time MLA and the senior state cabinet minister Madan Kaushik has now come in support of Nishank which is being seen by the observers as a positive sign for the BJP. However, doubt persists whether the bonhomie between the two mutually inimical factions would endure till the end.
Nonetheless, it was an enthusing spectacle for the party as the loyalists of both the camps flaunted unity during the road show and showed determination to ensure that Nishank sails through the electoral battle.
