NMC pats Chhattisgarh govt for imparting education to minority girls

Member of the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) Manjit Singh Rai appreciated the Government of Chhattisgarh for running 93 Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls’ Schools in remote rural areas of the state's 27 districts and imparting education to girls from minority communities.

Rai was holding a joint review meeting of Prime Minister’s 15-point programme for minorities’ welfare with school education, women and child development and health department at new Circuit House on Tuesday.

He directed officials to submit proposal for anganbadi centre and its building in minority dominated areas. The centres should have facilities for vaccination, recording their blood groups, identification of diseases and treatment of children.

Director, Public Instructions S Prakash briefing the meeting said under state education policy anganbadi has also been included while under Education for All drive school education is provided in 98% settlement.

All Kasturba Gandhi Schools are 100 seaters where education from class 8th to 10th is being imparted and a proposal is on the pipeline for 12th standard. He added that out of 440 Urdu teachers around 340 are working while meritorious students are being provided scholarship.

The NCM member directed the officials to ensure economic activities, employment, skill development and linking them to bank and providing loans. Panchayat and rural development department officer briefed that in last three years around 3264 minority community members had been given houses while in current year target is to reach out to 1457 beneficiaries.
