No ‘Ramlila, Ravana Dahan’ at HEC this year

Monday, 07 October 2019 | PNS | Ranchi

Dussehra is the festival when the Ramleela is staged and Ravana Dahan takes place. The event which takes place at HEC grounds is hosted by the corporate body along with various other organisations of the State Capital since 1967 might not be taking place this year.

“It is generally a social function performed by the society at large in which HEC is a part of the celebrations held. There are various local bodies who take up the initiative for the festivities.

It is not HEC’s baby for conducting the rituals every year. This year HEC has not been approached by any such organisation for the fete,” said a senior official of HEC.

HEC enables the facilities like filling up the uneven ground and providing the stage. The organisation also makes provisions of lifting the effigies once burnt with mobile cranes. In turn the executive committee formed invites the senior employees of the corporate body for lighting the effigies. Ramleela which would be staged at the same grounds has also been stopped for the past two years.

Plans of screening the serial Ramayan for the 10- day long Durga Puja celebrations are in the pipeline.

However, a programme for the employees of HEC might be organised at a small scale and preparations for which are underway added the PRO. Dussehra is the day which symbolises the victory of Lord Ram over the king of Lanka Ravana.

Towering grotesque effigies of Ravana along with his brother Kumbhakarna and son Meghanada are set to fire typically with fircrackers marking the destruction of evil and victory of righteousness.
