No ambulance, body carried on motorcycle

Monday, 09 December 2019 | PNS | PARALAKHEMUNDI

Family members of one Govind Bhuyian of Hatibadi village under Raygad block in Gajapati district had to carry his body from a hospital on a motorcycle after they failed to get an ambulance.

Govind had been admitted to the Raygad Community Healthcare Centre (CHC) after a stray dog bit him, but he died on Saturday. His poor family members pleaded with the hospital authorities for a Mahaprayan vehicle to carry his body to their village, which is about five km from the CHC.

The family members alleged that without making necessary arrangements for an ambulance, the doctor at the hospital asked them to make their own arrangements to carry the body.

Though the family members tried to book an auto-rickshaw, they had to drop the idea after its driver demanded Rs 3,500 to cover the distance of five km. With no other option left, they decided to carry the body home on the motorcycle.

“With no ambulance at the hospital and auto-rickshaw driver’s exorbitant charge, we first carried the body on shoulders and later on a motorcycle,” said the deceased’s brother.
