No ambulance available; pregnant woman taken to hospital on cot

In a sad reflection of the poor healthcare facilities and road communication in Nabarangpur district, a pregnant woman had to be taken to the hospital on a cot by her family members on Monday.

Gupta Santa, a resident of village Kursitahara under Umarkote police limits, said he called for an  108 ambulance, but it did not reach him and stopped 2 kilometer away from the village  due to  bad road condition. "I waited for more than an hour and then decided to use a charpoi to carry my wife Budanti Santa to the  ambulance  amid  dark night and  rain."

On reaching to the CHC , Umarkote, Budanti delivered a baby girl. The Government is spending crores of rupees on the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, but till now many residents of this sub-division are facing tragic situations due to muddy roads, said Nagesh Patnaik, a human rights activities.
