No need of panic on dengue: Health secretary

Sunday, 25 August 2019 | PNS | Dehradun

Taking stern note of the complaints that private hospitals and clinics are needlessly going for transfusion of platelets, the Secretary, medical health and family welfare, Nitesh Jha has said that action would be taken against such hospitals. The secretary undertook a meeting of health department officials and district administration authorities at Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital on Saturday. In the meeting, Jha directed the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Dehradun Dr S K Gupta that the atmosphere of confusion should not be created on platelets and asked him that he should contact all private hospitals on the matter. He said that senior physician of GDMC Hospital Dr K C Pant who is the nodal officer for dengue should technically examine the requisition of platelets from the private hospitals. Jha directed the DM of Dehradun and Senior City health officer to impose penalties on the heads of the government offices where larvae of dengue spreading mosquitoes are found.  It was also discussed in the meeting that a massive awareness campaign would be launched to make general public aware about the menace of the disease. In the campaign, medical students of GDMC, Asha workers, ANMs and NSS volunteers would participate. It was also decided that the facility of Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA), the confirmatory test of dengue would be set up at Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (Coronation) hospital and Raipur CHC.

At present this facility is available only at GDMC hospital.

The meeting was attended by Secretary in-charge Pankaj Pandey, Director General (DG) health services Dr R K Pandey, director Dr Amita Upreti, Anjali Nautiyal, Principal of GDMC Dr Ashutosh Sayana, Medical Superintendent (MS),Dr K K Tamta, CMO Dr S Gupta and others also took part in the meeting.

Dengue continue to soar

The number of dengue cases in Doon valley is continuing to rise unabatedly. On Saturday the district health department reported 10 new cases of the disease. With them the number of patients affected by this vector borne disease increased to 559. Incidentally the actual number of cases is much higher as the private hospitals where maximum number of dengue patients are either admitted or taking treatment usually don’t prefer to go for ELISA test. Meanwhile a woman said to be suffering from the disease died at Mahant Indiresh hospital on Saturday.
