No need to panic due to dengue: DG health

The Director General (DG) of State Health Services, Dr R K Pandey, has said that people should not get panicky on dengue. Addressing media persons at the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital here on Friday, the DG said that so far, four patients have succumbed to the disease in the State. He said that the teams of the health department are active in all parts of the State. These teams are working in source reduction of the disease and are educating people about preventive measures they should take to combat the disease.

He said that in Dehradun alone, the health workers have so far visited 57,000 households and covered 2.75 lakh people. These teams have found larvae of dengue spreading mosquito in 2,400 households.  On question of death audit of the patients of dengue, he said that it is generally observed that death of the patient suffering from dengue occurred due to other diseases the patient was suffering from.

He said that people should ensure that the breeding places of mosquitoes inside their homes and vicinity are destroyed.

The symptoms of Dengue are persistently high fever, rashes, headache and pain in the joints. In the acute cases the platelets number decrease drastically which could prove fatal for the patient.  

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Dehradun, Dr S K Gupta said that the department is on alert mode for the disease.

He said that the private hospitals have been asked to get the ELISA test done of the suspected patients of dengue. Dr Gupta said that all the Government hospitals in the district have adequate medicines and kits of ELISA.

The principal of GDMC, Dr Ashutosh Sayana, Medical Superintendent (MS) of GDMC hospital, Dr K K Tamta and CMS of Gandhi and Coronation hospitals, Dr B C Ramola were also present on the occasion.

Dengue continues its upward march

The virus of dengue is continuing to hit the residents of Doon valley and surrounding areas hard as 21 new cases of the disease were reported by district health department of Dehradun on Friday. With them the dengue toll in Dehradun has mounted to 883.

The district vector-borne diseases officer Subhash Joshi said that teams of health department and Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) are visiting the affected areas and activities like fogging and spread of insecticides are being undertaken apart from spreading awareness on preventive measures to be adopted for the disease.

He said that teams of health department undertook survey of 580 households in Raksha Vihar, Vani Vihar and Yamuna colony areas on Friday.
