Nomination papers  of Suman Diwakar,  Sudhakar Singh rejected

Wednesday, 02 October 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

Nomination papers of the RLD-SP alliance candidate Suman Diwakar from Iglas Assemly seat of Aligarh and SP’s Sudhakar Singh from Mau seat were rejected by the returning officer on Tuesday.

Returning officer (Aligarh) Anjani Kumar Singh said that the RLD candidate had not deposited Form-B and caste certificate within the stipulated time due to which her nomination was rejected.

Diwakar, on the other hand, claimed that she had reached the RO’s office with all relevant documents at 2.30 pm on Monday. She said she was asked to wait outside the office till 2.50 pm, raising suspicion, after which she entered the office before the deadline of 3 pm. “The person carrying From-B was deliberately prevented from entering the office before 3 pm as part of a conspiracy. I would certainly complain to the Election Commission about this,” she alleged.

The RO, however, denied the allegations saying that the timings for filing nominations were fixed by the EC and after 3 pm, no papers could be submitted. State RLD president Masood Ahmad said that the manipulation was symptomatic of the threat currently faced by the democratic system in the country. He said that his party was exploring all legal options. In protest, RLD workers raised slogans against the Aligarh district administration.

The Samajwadi Party had announced to extended support to RLD in Iglas Assembly seat and hence did not field any candidate for the bypolls slated on October 21. The Iglas seat fell vacant after sitting BJP MLA Rajveer Singh Diler was elected to Lok Sabha in the 2019 general elections.

Meanwhile, BJP candidate Rajkumar Sahyogi filed his nomination papers for Iglas seat on Monday. While Congress has fielded Umesh Diwakar, BSP’s Abhay Kumar is also in the fray.

Bypolls to 11 seats in UP will be held on October 21. The seats include Iglas (SC), Balha (SC) Zaidpur (SC), Jalalpur, Pratapgarh, Rampur, Lucknow Cantonment, Gangoh, Manikpur, Govindnagar and Ghosi. All the seats except for Rampur and Jalalpur were with the BJP.

Meanwhile, nomination papers of 40 candidates were rejected during scrutiny. After scrutiny, 115 candidates were left in the fray.  The last date for withdrawal of nominations is October 3.
