Mohit Diwedi, the project head of Remki-the company which has been entrusted with the task of sanitation and waste management in Dehradun by the civic body — said that the refuse-derived fuel (RDF) which is being produced at the Shishambada solid waste management plant is piling up covering a large area. He further said that RDF needs to be rightly managed soon after it is churned out.
He further said that the waste management plant at Shishambada is producing two things—RDF and compost. “We sell the compost. However, RDF is heaping up here for a long time. Things are alarming as it is covering a large space. We have talked to the municipal corporation of Dehradun officers about the problem. They have assured that something would be done soon to solve the problem,” he added.
As per the information received, talks are now going on between MCD and Remki about the waste to energy plant. If the plant comes up the RDF being churned out by the waste management plant would be used to generate electricity. Dwelling further on the matter, Diwedi said, “We would meet the MCD officials on the matter on February 19. We hope that things would be decided during and after the meeting.”
Queried over the matter, the municipal commissioner Dehradun Vinay Shankar Pandey said that they were aware of the matter. “We know that RDF is collecting over a large area. We have given direction to the officers concerned about the matter and it would hopefully resolved within a week,” he assured.
