The Election Commission of India on Wednesday issued notification for the bypoll to one Rajya Sabha seat of Uttar Pradesh.
The seat fell vacant due to the resignation of Samajwadi Party MP Neeraj Shekhar, who has now joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The term of this Rajya Sabha seat ends on November 25, 2020.
Principal Secretary (Assembly) Pradeep Kumar Dubey said here on Wednesday the last date of filing nominations for the lone Rajya Sabha seat was August 14 while scrutiny of papers would be done on August 16. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is August 19.
The polling, if required, will be held from 9 am to 4 pm on August 26 and the result will be declared the same day.
BJP is expected to field Neeraj Shekhar for the Rajya Sabha bypoll and his unopposed election is certain as the ruling BJP has majority in the assembly.
