NVKM head submits memo on removal of sanitation workers

Wednesday, 15 May 2019 | PNS | DEHRADUN

After the Municipal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey removed two sanitation workers on Monday, Nagar Vikas Karmchari Mahasangh (NVKM) head Satendra Kumar submitted a memorandum to the commissioner on Tuesday. He stated that the attitude of officials removing workers without any notice will not be tolerated.

It is important to mention here that the municipal commissioner had conducted an inspection near EC Road on Monday. During the inspection, he found out that the area near the road was not properly cleaned as per the orders of the officials. Considering it to be a result of carelessness of the sanitation workers appointed in the area, he ordered removal of the two sanitation workers from their jobs on the spot. He also gave directions to all the workers for following the orders and to work properly in their assigned areas.

Expressing his views on the removal of the sanitation workers Kumar said, “The municipal wards which were 60 earlier have increased to 100 now. The population living in these wards has also increased. Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) on the other hand has very limited workers and resources. The workers who were 640 back then are now only 240 in number. In such a situation a single worker is overburdened with wards he/she is unable to maintain at the same time. In addition, the officials are removing these poor labourers for no valid reason which is not fair. Officials should think before taking such step as this can ruin the only source of income of the workers.”

Municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said, “Our motive is not to remove sanitation workers. We are here for their welfare. Orders were issued to all the sanitation workers for maintaining their assigned wards however even after that some faults were found. We only appeal the workers to work honestly in the wards they have been assigned to so that the city can remain clean.”
