Officials hold meeting to improve sanitation system

In order to ensure the desired level of sanitation in every municipal ward, the officials of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) held a meeting with all the zonal officers, sanitation officers, and sanitation staff on the weekend. The officials further gave instructions on 12 points to all the workers for ensuring the cleanliness in every ward of the city.

The municipal commissioner of Dehradun, Vinay Shankar Pandey, stated that every zonal and sanitation officer is to remain present in their assigned wards every day to check the presence of the sanitation staff.

It is mandatory for sanitation workers to clean small or big drains in every assigned ward (minimum 500 metres) every day. The main road areas in every ward should be cleaned properly especially the dividers and areas around it. The sanitation staff will also ensure the cleanliness of the big garbage containers along with taking care of its bleaching and applying bin guard to it.

During the meeting, Pandey also emphasised on making of the ward offices. He further stated that every ward should have a working office, adding that those lacking one will be provided with it within one week by the MCD. He said that every worker has to give information about working street lights poles as well as the faulty ones to the MCD within one week.

Every zonal officer was further given directions to install the biometric machine to ensure the attendance of the sanitation staff. Along with this, sanitation officers were given direction to regularly keep a check in their assigned area and provide a report to the MCD on regular basis.

The municipal commissioner also made a team during the meeting and announced that the formed team will check the cleanliness of every ward every three months.

Further cash rewards will be given to three wards with the best leve of cleanliness. Also, the three wards found worst from the sanitation point of view will be selected during the same inspection by the team and sanitation workers of these wards will be slapped with the appropriate penalty.

At the end of the meeting, he further stated that sanitation officers will further assure slapping fines on the people found littering the public places. Also, another meeting will be conducted next week and any official found careless in his/her assigned work will be penalised appropriately, he added.
