Omfed may hike milk price: Minister

Wednesday, 11 September 2019 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

Consumers are likely to feel the pinch in their pockets as the State Government is considering increasing the price of milk sold by the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Limited (Om fed).

Agriculture Minister Arun Sahoo hinted at a hike in the milk price during a workshop of dairy farmers here on Tuesday.

Keeping in mind the interest of farmers and consumers, a decision on milk price hike would be taken soon, said the Minister.

As private traders have raised the milk prices recently, the Government is mulling an increase in the rate of Omfed milk, he added.

Meanwhile, the Odisha Milk Farmers Association submitted a memorandum to Minister Sahoo and Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare and Cooperation Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain demanding that the Omfed hike the milk price and procure milk from farmers at Rs 30 per litre.

A delegation of the association led by its chairman Rabi Behera met the Ministers and submitted the memorandum.
