In a road accident on Thursday night the driver of a speeding jeep lost control of the vehicle which fell off down the road into a 250 metre deep gorge resulting in the death of one passenger while 12 others including the driver were injured. The vehicle was returning from a marriage function when the accident happened in Lohaghat area of Champawat district.
The deceased has been identified as Badkot resident Chandan Singh (18). Those injured in the accident have been identified as Raju Adhikari, Pan Singh, Neeraj Singh, Kishore Singh, Girdhar Singh, Saurabh, Suraj Singh, Balwant Singh, Puran Singh, Krishna Adhikari, Suraj and Dileep Singh.The Lohaghat police station officer Manish Khatri said, “The incident happened at about 8:30 pm on Thursday. There were in total 13 persons in the vehicle including the driver. They were returning from a marriage function from Majpeepal to Kamajola Badkot.
So far in the investigation, it appears that the driver was speeding. At the place where the accident happened, the road had been dug up to lay cable of a private mobile phone service provider because of which the already narrow road became more problematic.”
Giving further details about the rescue that was conducted till late night he said, “All 12 injured were rescued.
