A youth was killed and another sustained critical injury after their motorcycle crashed into a roadside tree near Basantpur village under the Fatehgarh police station in Nayagarh district on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Prasant Nayak of Baliapata village and the injured was Raja Nayak of the same village.
Sources said that the incident took place when the duo was returning to their village from Bodasa village. After Raja lost control over the bike, they crashed into a roadside tree where Prasant died on the spot.
Basantpur villagers rushed them to the Khandapada Hosiptal but doctors declared Prasant brought dead. Later, Raja was shifted to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Police sent Prasant’s body for postmortem after registering a UD case.
