The handloom and handicrafts of Madhya Pradesh are being displayed at the largest online exhibition cum sale by Google Arts and Culture ‘Crafted In India’.
To showcase India’s rich handicraft heritage and make it accessible for the world to experience, Google Arts and Culture today unveiled its latest exhibit, ‘Crafted in India’. It is being organised by Ministry of Tourism, Dastkari Haat Samiti.
Madhya Pradesh’s famous Bagh Print, which is a specialised form of wooden hand block printing, is a prominent feature of the exhibit. People from across the globe can now discover how National Award winner Umar Faruk Khatri practices Bagh printing, catch a glimpse of the centuries-old processes he has mastered, and explore the art behind making the traditional colour palette and printing the designs.
‘Crafted in India’ also features Madhya Pradesh’s tradition of Gond Painting, an iconic cultural form. In addition to the feature on a stalwart like Bhajju Shyam, the series of exhibits on Gond painting also explores how artists have evolved their signature style, adding contemporary elements to the form enriching the wellsprings from which their art emerges.
From Kerala to Kashmir, Kutch to Kohima, and all 29 Indian states, over 50 of India’s crafts will now be on ‘Crafted in India the largest online exhibition on Indian Crafts.
