Oppn slams govt over law, order

Friday, 11 October 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

Opposition parties targeted Yogi Adityanath over deteriorating law and order and even questioned the government efforts to improve the situation.
Congress general secretary incharge UP East, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, in her tweet alleged that the criminals were free to strike at any place and kill anyone in Uttar Pradesh. Through her series of tweets on Thursday, Priyanka pointed to the double murder in Mau where a teacher and her son were shot dead, in Basti where a student leader was gunned down and in Kanpur where a Congress leader was sprayed with bullets.
She alleged that UP had become a safe haven for criminals while the people of the state had been left to face the atrocities and violence as criminals had been given a free hand.
Newly-appointed Congress Legislature Party leader Aradhna Mishra ‘Mona’ also hit out at the Yogi Adityanath government over law and order and said that jungle raj prevailed in the present government.
Mishra said when the ruling party had failed to give protection to their own senior leaders, what could be expected from it for the safety of the people.
Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Thursday also slammed the Yogi Adityanath government over deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
The BSP chief also asked the Chief Minister to take corrective measures to control crime in the state.
Through her Twitter handle, Mayawati said on Thursday, “If the crime is taking place openly in the state capital Lucknow, then the plight of other districts is understandable. There is a lot of public resentment and uneasiness among the people over fake encounter. Voices are raised against it. It is clear that there is no law and order in UP rather the region is dominated by jungle raj of criminals.”
The comment of the BSP president follows the attack on a restaurant owner in the state capital on Wednesday night while the opposition leaders slammed the government over the alleged fake encounter of Pushpendra Yadav in Jhansi.
It may be mentioned that Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has also raised the issue of fake encounter in Jhansi and accused the government of failing to maintain law and order situation. HE said the government was killing innocents in the name of alleged `encounters.
