Over 2K degrees conferred on day 1 of SXC Graduation Ceremony

For the first time in the history of St. Xavier's College, Ranchi, the students were seen wearing tradition attire instead of gown and cap for the graduation ceremony of the college held on Thursday.

While the girls were seen donning sarees, the boys were seen wearing Kurta Payjama in the 10th graduation ceremony of the college. In the two day programme which concludes on Friday, a total of 4431 degrees will be conferred to the pass out students of year 2017 and 2018.

On day one, 2195 pass out students of 2017 were awarded degrees while on Friday another 2236 students who completed their course in 2018 will be given degrees.

Chief Guest of the programme was Governor cum Chancellor Droupadi Murmu who awarded the degrees to the gold medalists. A total of 35 students bagged the gold medal from year 2017 while 36 pass out of 2018 received the gold medal.

The Governor congratulated the students who were awarded degrees on the occasion and said, "This is one of the most reputed colleges of the State and students aspire to be a part of this institution. Parents also encourage their students to get good marks so that they can get admission here. It is a matter of pride for me to witness the graduation ceremony of this institute."

She urged the college to maintain the excellence and develop infrastructure before starting a new course. "Ensure that quality education is not hampered due to increase in students. Quality education is most important for any State to develop," Murmu said.

She encouraged the students to work hard and excel in their field so that they can become role model for others.

The gold medalists were excited to get medals from the Chancellor herself. Riya Thakur, gold medalist of department of mass communication and video production said, "It was a moment of pride for me to get the gold medal from the Chancellor herself. I have put in a lot of efforts to score the best marks and am currently working with a public relations firm."

Payal Priya, gold medalist of MA English, who is pursuing PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University said, "I am thankful to my teachers here as it is for their support that I managed to get admission in JNU."

After the graduation ceremony, the annual fest of the college, which was cancelled in February after Pulwama attack, will also be organised on August 31 and September 1.

Education Minister Neera Yadav will be the chief guest of the programme.
