More than six lakh voters have been added to the Delhi’s voter list between 2015 and 2019, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Delhi, Ranbir Singh told the major political parties in a meeting. Approximately 17.5 lakh were added and 11.5 lakh were deleted in the same time period.
“The representatives of the political parties were apprised of the status of electoral rolls for the period 2015 to 2019 and it was informed that total 17,54,356 electors have been added and 11,44,316 electors have been delete,” said a statement issued by the office of CEO, Delhi.
The statement further said that there is a net addition of 6,10,040 electors in Delhi since the year 2015.
The data was revealed to the representatives of political parties in Delhi in a meeting held between the parties and CEO on Wednesday.
“The meeting was attended by the representatives of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) and Indian National Congress (INC),” informed the statement.
The AAP has been alleging ‘deletion’ of names of 30 lakh voters, particularly of Purvanchali, Muslims and Bania communities, since the 2015 assembly election in Delhi and attacking the BJP claiming its hand behind it.
Taking cognizance of such allegations, the parties were also informed about the steps being taken by the department to create awareness among the voters. They were requested to appoint Booth Level Agents in respect of each polling station of NCT of Delhi.
At the end, it was unanimously decided to organize special camps at all polling locations on Saturday or Sunday to enroll the eligible citizens who are not enrolled, the statement added further.
