Pauri police continue drive against illegal liquor

During the drive conducted by the police against bootlegging and illicit drugs trade on the directions of Pauri senior superintendent of police, Dilip Singh Kunwar, the police team of Paithani police station recovered 60 IMFL bottles being smuggled in an Uttarakhand Roadways bus and arrested four persons.

On the other hand, personnel of Paubo police post under Pauri Kotwali, recovered five cartons of IMFL being smuggled in a car and arrested one person while personnel of Chilla police post under Lakshman Jhula police station recovered 115 litres of locally brewed liquor from a jeep and arrested one person while two others managed to escape. Similarly, in Kotdwar, the police recovered 52 quarters of IMFL from Harendra Rana on Thursday. The police registered case against him under Excise Act.

According to the police, during checking Paithani police station personnel recovered two bags containing total of 60 bottles of IMFL in a roadways bus. The accused Balbir Singh told the police that he had purchased these bottles from Delhi for the marriage of his brother to be held next month.

He said that he had kept the bottles in the presence of the bus conductor. The police said that the liquor was being transported due to the negligence of the driver and conductor.

In Paubo, the police conducting checks signalled a car driver to halt but he attempted to reverse.

The police surrounded him and recovered five cartons of liquor from the car. The police arrested Kalam Singh and seized the vehicle being used to illegally transport the liquor.
