Taking cognisance of a notice published in a newspaper, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Pritam Singh has warned the State Government that the Congress will initiate an agitation if the decision to implement property tax on the properties in the 40 new municipal wards in Dehradun is not revoked.
He stated that Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat had earlier stated that for the next 10 years all properties in the new wards will be exempt from property tax but now the State Government is going back on his words.
When asked about this, the Dehradun municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said that according to the written decision that the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) had received from the CM’s office, only residential properties were exempted from paying property tax not commercial buildings.
It will be recalled that the MCD has for some time been considering the collection of property tax on commercial buildings in its 40 new wards.
