In a road accident at 12 PM on Tuesday a pedestrian while crossing the road near Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology got hit by a motorbike, due to which he suffered severe injury. He later succumbed to his injuries at Synergy hospital.
The police are still trying to find the accused in the case. The deceased has been identified as Chintamani, who was working as a security guard in a hospital near Ballupur Chowk.
Indira Nagar police post in-charge DR Purohit giving details about the incident said, “We are still trying to trace the accused.
We are checking the footage of both private and governmental CCTV cameras installed in the area. The deceased was 60 years old and suffered major injuries to the back side of his head.”
It is pertinent to mention here that there is no proper pedestrian road crossing or system enforced by the authorities to enable pedestrians to safely cross the road in the provisional state capital Dehradun.
In the past the police had installed a traffic light for pedestrians too near Clock Tower but the system was discontinued.
As footpaths are encroached upon or ill-designed in various locations, the authorities have not been able to inculcate the habit of using footpaths among pedestrians.
With vehicular traffic rising consistently in the city, the pedestrians too face increased risk while on the roads.
