East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) on Monday launched a pilot project for pedestrianisation in Krishna Nagar market. The trial run of the project has been started between 11 am and 9 pm from October 7 to 11.
As per the plan, the 1.25 km stretch at Lal Quarter market-from Chachi Building to Gondli Chowk has been developed as a pedestrian walkway and another small stretch of Mandir Marg has been made non-motorised zone. Standing Committee Chairman in EDMC Sandeep Kapoor said it will decongest the market. He also appealed to people and shopkeepers to cooperate in implementing the project effectively.
EDMC Commissioner Dr Dilraj Kaur said the representatives of the market association also wished to pedestrianise the market.
Dr Kaur said all people will benefit from this plan. She said that it will help in accomplishing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Fit India’.
