A day ahead of Dhanteras festival with which the festival of Deepawali actually begins, people are shopping for commodities which are going to influence their financial condition for the whole year. While astrologers suggest purchasing items of gold and silver metal as per the effect of planets, the youngsters are exploring purchase offers on the latest gadgets launched in the market.

According to Vastu Shastra, things purchased with knowledge help align the planets in our favour while odd things purchased may cast negative effect too. Prateek Mishrapuri, astrologer and Vastu Shastra expert said, “It is believed that worshipping goddess Lakshmi and god Kuber on Dhanteras day brings prosperity and wealth. This year, Dhanteras is falling in ‘Hasta’ nakshatra which is influenced by moon and Uttaraphalmi (which represents sun) so buying gold and silver is beneficial for the entire family.” City markets are dazzling as shoppers throng jewellery and utensil stores on Diwali fest to buy their items of choice

However the gizmo freaks are stuck for attractive offers on mobiles, many youths were seen asking for latest models and discount offers in festive season.

Punya Chaddha, a teenager said, “In a bid to bring home Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, I will buy Apple mobile which I had dreamt for long. To me this is the biggest asset what a student can have which is used 24 hours. Any other commodity which we buy is used only when need arises but mobiles are indispensable these days. It is my TV, phone, camera, computer everything.”

Those who can afford are planning for gold and diamond stud watches, the latest in style collection by branded watch companies while some middle class family members said that they were going to stick to kitchen items. “Grill and toast two in one is what I am looking for,” said Shuchi Saini, a homemaker.

Buying metal stuff is the most in-thing rather than glass items which is considered inauspicious linked to ‘Rahu’ on Dhanteras festival. Anil Chadha, the trader in Roorkee revealed a shift in trend of shoppers.

He said: “Earlier people used to buy only silver or gold coins and middle class people restricted to utensils shopping but now people shop for gadgets like LED TV screens, mobiles, health gadgets which they feel will actually help them in life. Around 50 advance bookings were placed for LED TV on Dhanteras with discount officer. Considering the demand, we ordered a large range of TV screens to be delivered on Diwali day.

V K Agnihotri said, “I bought Fitbit, an electronic gadget with computer based chip which works on the manual feed target in synchronization with mobile. Target is set by the user as per his age, weight, profession and it shows steps covered during day, heart rate, calories burned, stairs covered by simply pressing a button displayed on machine.” The gadget gives information alert about improper activities of our body in terms of weight and calories burned. So I shall be able to monitor and manage the required optimum parameters for healthy body, he added.

What could be better option to stay fit for the whole year since health is real wealth, reasoned Agnihotri.
