Persistency and hard work is motto behind success: GCs

Persistency and hard work are keys towards achieving the goal. This was the motto with which they had completed their training and have now become commissioned officers in the Indian Army.

The Gentlemen Cadets (GC) awarded medals for excellent performance in the passing out contingent of autumn term 2019 said that it was their tenacious tendency to be part of the Indian Army that led to achieve their goal in life.

Gold Medallist and recipient of prestigious Sword of Honour, Academy under Officer, Vinay Vilas Garad hails from Maharashtra and has been assigned Parachute Regiment.

He is a first generation army officer in his family and has always been interested in sports. His father is an associate professor and younger brother is pursuing engineering.

About his journey in IMA he said, “It was my dream from 11 years to be part of the Indian Army and don olive green uniform. As I studied in Army School from sixth standard onwards and then got qualified for National Defence Academy (NDA), the physical part of training in IMA was comparatively adaptable, but there are mental apprehension of the training as well.”

For the youngsters aspiring to be in army, he suggested that it is important to have the fighting spirit to achieve results.

If someone is not getting selected in the first attempt or have not been able to clear NDA, then they should again try for CDS.

Silver Medal for standing first in the Technical Graduate Course, Junior under Officer Shiv Raj Singh hails from Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

He graduated from DIT University Dehradun.  About his journey he said, “It was my sixth attempt to get into the Indian Army. The thing is to introspect yourself, learn from your mistakes, and keep trying consistently.” 

Chief of Army Staff Banner was awarded to Keren Company, its leader Rohit Verma hails from Punjab. He said that he has always been good in academics, but it was his childhood dream to be in the Army.

About the training in IMA he said, “I wouldn’t say it wasn’t tough, both in NDA and IMA, but it is what it is. It is as necessary as it is supposed to be, and if one is devoted to be part of the Indian Army this is what they have to go through.”

Silver Medal for standing first in the Order of Merit among the Foreign GC’s was awarded to Kuenzang Wangchuk from Bhutan. His parents are farmers and he is the first generation officer in his family.

This is Wanchuk’s fourth year in India. He was earlier in the National Defence Academy (NDA).

About his journey in India he said, “Everything about IMA and NDA including the training and its structure is outstanding. I am thankful to Indian Army for making us capable of commanding our own Army. During the entire duration of my time here, I kept the motto of Indian Army, Service before Self in my mind.”
