The National Unity Day was observed at Reserve Police Lines here on Thursday. Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, along with public representatives and senior police officials, paid tribute to the Iron Man of the country—Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, on whose birth anniversary the day is commemorated in the country. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that after independence even though the British left India, they left the nation divided with many princely States.
He said that it was Sardar Patel who unified all the 562 princely States in India without the support of any force. Patel also had great concern for the farmers of the country.
He used to believe that without farmers, it is impossible to imagine the existence of India.
The CM further stated that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is following the footsteps of Sardar Patel and working on the same model of ‘One India, Best India’. This is the year when Article 370 has been abrogated from Jammu and Kashmir and now the future of Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh will also be bright.
Speaking about the ongoing movement against single use plastic in the State, the CM said that when Sardar Patel was the mayor of Ahmedabad, he had conducted a sanitation programme there for 222 days.
Rawat and other dignitaries also paid tribute to the police personnel who died recently in a road accident in Nainital. The CM said that the families of these police personnel will be provided with all possible help by the State Government.
Director General of Police (DGP) Anil K Raturi said that as the first Home Minister of Independent India, the role of Sardar Patel in uniting the divided parts of the country is very important.
He also played a vital role in establishing the initial infrastructure for the administration in the country. The DGP further said that Uttarakhand Police will always try to walk on the path that Patel had shown.
On the occasion, the best police station award was given to Clement Town police station. The armed robbery case at the residence of RP Easwaran, owner of Abhimanyu Cricket Academy, was chosen as the best cash work-out case.
For the same case, Superintendent of Police (city) Shweta Choubey, Nehru Colony station in-charge Dilbar Singh Negi, Special Operations Group in-charge Aishwarya Pal and Mohammad Yasin were also presented citations by the CM. State Minister Dhan Singh Rawat, MP Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah and MLAs were also among those present on the occasion.
