In the accident at Badowala, in which a 15-year old girl lost her life after a dumper ran over her at a time when it was not even supposed to operate, the locals have alleged that the police are apathetic to such illegal operation of dumpers during the daytime.

The accident happened at about 7 am in the morning, while these dumpers and other trucks are prohibited from operating on such roads from 5 am to 11 pm.

The angry crowd which gathered at the crime scene accused the police department and district administration of carelessness. They said that had the illegal operation of these dumpers been prevented, the minor would have been alive.

According to a family friend of the victim’s family, “The dumper should not have been operating at this hour. We had complained earlier about this also but no one takes cognisance of such complaints unless there is some big accident.”

Deputy Inspector General (traffic) Keval Khurana said, “The SSP should make sure that such illegal operations are stopped. Just four days back they submitted a report to us stating there are no accidents involving dumpers. The rate of accidents involving heavy vehicles is increasing in Dehradun, the SSP will be asked to monitor it strictly.” It is also important to mention here that according to the eye witnesses of the accident the road near the accident site needs to be broadened. The area faces traffic congestion routinely, they said.
