Police on Sunday conducted a flag march and deployed as many as 30 platoons of forces as tension prevailed after pre-poll violence erupted in the district on Saturday, injuring a BJD worker. BJD members led by Balangir MLA candidate Arkesh Narayan Singh Deo also held a rally in the town on the day appealing to everybody to maintain peace.
Reports said that some Congress workers allegedly barged into the BJD office at Chandanbhati village under the Sadar police station in the district late on Saturday night and attacked a BJD worker, Prafulla Meher. Meher, who sustained grievous injuries in the attack, was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).
“I was sitting in the BJD office when a group of 20 to 25 Congress workers barged into the office and beat me up,” alleged Meher.
After getting information about the clash between the two groups in Chandanbhati, the local police station IIC along with his team rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Sensitised and non-sensitised booths have been categorised and police arrangements have been done accordingly,” said Balangir SP K Siva Subramani.
