Police intervene in a wedding brawl

In an incident that took place at Peterwar block in Bokaro district, miffed family members of a girl decided to call off the wedding after an altercation. The peterwar police intervened and convinced both the families to resolve the matter. The families then ended their differences and the couple tied the knot in the police station here on Saturday, said Officer in Charge Bipin Kumar of Peterwar PS.

The couple tied the knot in a police station after both moved there, in middle of their wedding, to file a complaint. Sources said Sanju Kumari (19) and Sonu Ghatwar (21),both hailing from Peterwar and Ramghrah fell in love four years ago and decided to run away from home as their families were against love marriage. This prompted the couple to elope, following which both the families approached the Peterwar police station in Bokaro.

During the course of the investigation,the police found that the couple were adults and wanted to get married. The Peterwar police then arranged the wedding within the station premises.When miffed family members of girl decided to call off the wedding following an untoward incident at the venue. One of the girl’s relatives was reportedly slapped by a person during the wedding, leading to the ceremony getting halted.

When families of both the bride and the groom failed to resolve the matter amicably, they decided to escalate it and take help of the police. The Officer-in Charge Bipin Kumar not only stepped in to resolve the matter but also urged both the families to end their differences and implored the couple to get on with the remaining rituals. Following this, the better sense prevailed and the couple exchanged ‘jaimala’ amidst loud cheers and flower showering from the police officers, who took part in the wedding procession as ‘baraatis’.
