With rising incidents of mob lynching sparked by rumours, mainly through social media, the Bokaro thermal police organised an awareness meeting on mob lynching at Bokaro club here on Wednesday. Chaired by Block Development Officer (Bermo block) Akhilesh Kumar, the meeting was attended by Umesh Kumar Thakur, all body members including SB Singh, Dr SP Verma, Dr Nishant Kumar and locals.
On the occasion, Officer-in Charge Umesh Kumar Thakur said people should not take law in their hands and report any matter to the police immediately. He urged people to remain alert and to inform the nearby police station or dial 100 immediately about any incident of mob violence and lynching.
Following death of 24-year Tabrez Ansari who allegedly fell victim of mob lynching in the wee hours of June 18, the police are taking every step to educate people not to take law in their hands. Recently on July 13, 2019 at Bagodar area in Giridih district has witnessed incident of two people including driver and cleaner getting attacked by suspicious mobs.
In past few months of years 2018 and 2019, several cattle traders were allegedly lynched at different villages in Bengabad block of Giridih and Ramgrah districts.
