After a number of the incidents of chain snatching, a gang from the Bawaria community has been arrested by the police on Sunday. The gang includes two women and four men of whom two men are absconding.
Addressing the media here on Sunday, the district’s senior superintendent of police, Senthil Avoodai, said that the gang of chain snatchers was being headed by a woman named Gyanwati. She used to keep an eye on the women to target while also directing the chain snatchers.
After a few incidents of chain snatching, the SSP and the SP (City) Kamlesh Upadhyay placed informants and officers to nab the culprits. The police have kept CCTV footage of different locations. Further, the four persons were caught red-handed on the highway with to motorcycles. Four gold chains were also recovered from the accused.
"With the help of necessary force, CIU, police stations in charge of SIIDCUL, Jwalapur, Ranipur and Kankhal the chain snatchers have been caught on the spot as they were trying to escape. The two men absconding will also be caught soon,” said the SSP.
