For the upcoming human chain event in the city on November 5 against the use of single use polythene and plastic, the Dehradun traffic department has completed almost all preparations. According to Superintendent of Police (traffic) Prakash Chandra Arya, they have conducted meetings with the other stakeholders as well. However, they are yet to finalise the duration of the main event, for which a final meeting between district administration and the organisers-Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will be conducted in a day or two.
SP Arya said that as the proposed duration of the event is two hours, the police will be deploying extra force on the field. He said that the main event will happen only for about 10 minutes and that at least one lane of the road will be open for traffic during the preparation time. The traffic will not be stopped, but will of course be slower than on normal days.
It is pertinent to mention here that the proposed route for the 50 kilometre long human chain is from Miyanwala Chowk to Mokhampur, then to Rispana, Dharampur, Araghar, East Canal Road and then to Behel Chowk. From Behel Chowk there will be two turns, one will continue towards Rajpur Road and then Mussoorie diversion.
The other end of the chain will start from Behel Chowk to Clock Tower, Chakrata Road, GMS Road, Balliwala Chowk, Kamla Palace, Niranjanpur Mandi, Patelnagar, Lalpul, Saharanpur Chowk, Adhat Bazaar, Prince Chowk, Tehsil Chowk to Darshan Lal Chwok and then back to Clock Tower.
